Alton Drilling Ltd., established in 1983, is one of New Zealand’s most respected drilling contractors.
Our History
A privately owned company, Alton Drilling provides quality professional service with a friendly business approach.
Alton’s main drilling focus is exploration, including diamond coring, open hole, percussion drilling, coal & mineral exploration, reverse circulation (RC) and aircore drilling. The company also has worked on various seismic, geotechnical and instrumental jobs, drilling all types of ground conditions in all types of locations.
Using the latest drilling equipment and technology combined with a wide range of experience spanning many years, Alton Drilling is able to lend specialist expertise to projects around the country. Continual research into new drilling rigs and equipment keeps Alton Drilling at the forefront of drilling in New Zealand.
Alton Drilling is also very involved in the manufacturing and design of exploration drilling rigs. The ADL Series rigs are working all around the world including Australasia, Asia and Europe.
The rigs can be mounted on rubber or steel tracks, or for drill sites in remote or steep locations, the rigs can be built to be heli-portable and can be broken down into flyable components.
Alton Drilling also offers a design service and is able to build ‘one-off’ machines, purpose-built for the client’s requirements.

What we do

Alton Drilling has expertise in four main areas of drilling. Our main focus is Exploration Drilling, but we also have skills and experience in Environmental, Geotechnical, and Aircore drilling.
We offer a comprehensive Drilling Contracting Service with the ability to provide experienced staff, purpose built rigs, custom built camp and rig huts, helicopter support, and management of Health, Safety & Environmental risks.
We are able to keep downtime to a minimum with regular maintenance programmes, a wide range of spares in stock, and thorough knowledge of our equipment.

Alton Drilling has specialised in building exploration rigs to suit a wide range of applications. We have applied our experience and knowledge to design Rigs that work.
Our smaller rigs can be broken down to be moved by helicopter. Our larger rigs mounted on Tracked Marookas can make site access easy.
We can also build support vehicles such as rod carriers to work with ADL Series rigs.

With our extensive experience in building and operating drilling rigs we can offer a design and refurbishment service to our customers. We can design a rig from the ground up to suit your specific project or technical drilling needs.
We can also source second hand equipment and refurbish it to provide you with a cost effective solution. We can take your old rig and make it new again.

We Manufacture a large range of drilling equipment for exploration purposes including pumps, winches, drill masts, and many other items.
Huts
We have developed a set of high quality camp and rig buildings that can be flown into remote sites. These can be configured to provide comfortable accommodation and essential services on location for your drilling teams.

We have the agencies for Braden Winches, American Manufacturing Mud Pumps, and Hayden Diamond Bits.
We are also able to supply a wide range of drilling parts and consumables.We hold stock of key items so can provide a reliable backup service for your drilling operation.

Our Team
Cory has been Managing Director of Alton Drilling since 2006.
He oversees all aspects of the business, and is our key contact for Rig Sales and Drilling enquiries.
Alistair is our roaming Maintenance Engineer and can be found on any one of our sites servicing our equipment or helping solve challenges for our customers.
Emma is our administrative support person who keeps the operation running smoothly.
